Eisenmann to automate logistics for Rossmann

Boeblingen, February 6, 2017 – Rossmann Poland is expanding its distribution center in Lodz, Poland. It has contracted production-system specialist Eisenmann to implement a one-stop, fully automated logistics solution, and provide equipment for the new high-bay warehouse. Rossmann GmbH, one of the owners of Rossman Poland, is Germany’s second-largest drugstore chain, with 3,400 stores throughout Europe. Rossmann Poland has 1,200 locations.

The 40-meter-high warehouse will be equipped with eight storage and retrieval machines, plus pallet conveyors. An inverted electric monorail will link the new building with the existing complex – a distance of 400 meters. Initially, 25 trolleys will be deployed to handle the flow of goods between the receiving area, the high-bay warehouse, and the shipping department. The center has more than 36,000 pallet positions. Furthermore, the floor-mounted conveyor can be scaled up, and has been designed for a future daily throughput of 8,000 pallets.

“We are extending and converting our distribution center without interrupting ongoing operations. That means construction work must be carefully coordinated,” explains Pjotr Cieslak, Director of Logistics. “Eisenmann’s comprehensive knowledge of material flow control technology, and its experience managing large-scale, multi-contractor projects, made it our provider of choice,” he adds.

Rossmann grew revenues by 9.4 percent in fiscal 2015, to a total of 7.9 billion euros.
